~EAGLES FLIGHT WORKSHOP
I found the Eagles Flight workshop was a great experience and i thought that I learnt a lot about how to go about starting and completing a project all while having good fun. the game that we played, The Dutchmans Gold, was good fun and required teamwork and a good deal of planning to accomplish a good score. In the review of our scores, strategies and and attitude the presenter explained what our performance meant and what the best possible strategy would have been.
It was a truly great experience and I will remember it whenever I undertake a future project as it taught valuable lessons about leadership, teamwork and planning.
~ENTERPRISE TALK
The Enterprise talk was about the mini company project and its various competitions which involves students becoming entrepreneurs to design, produce and sell a project and present them at regional and national competitions.
The competition is based around innovation, the pupils ability to market the product and original ideas. The presentation was very well delivered and I can see how this would interest people, however this sort of thing is not for me.

~Well Being Week
The week of the 6th of November was this years Well Being Week in St Gerards. the school run this event to promote good mental health and raise awareness for people with mental health issues.
To start off the week we had Minister Simon Harris talk to ius about goof mental health and how different things can affect our well being such as diet. He also talked about his future plans as minister and how events like Well Being Week are essential.
The school also gave out coloured ribbons. Each year group had a specific colour. Ty had purple and it stood for creativity and 6th years had grey for balance.
On Monday afternoon we had a talk from Alison Canavan, a well being activist. She spoke about her past and she suffered with depression and substance abuse and how she overcame these problems. This talk was engaging because it was coming from someone who had suffered poor mental health.
Finally on Friday afternoon we had the Aware 'Beat the Blues' workshop. This was my favourite event of the week. It was very engaging and more light-hearted and was more interesting because it was a workshop not just a talk. it was a fun way to learn about mental health and how to 'beat the blues'

~Martial Arts
On the 26th and 27th of October we had a martial arts and self defence course in school. the instructor started off by showing us a presentation explaining the course and showed cctv footage of real situations.
In the sports hall we learnt different strikes such as elbows and kicks and a variety of blocks and take-downs and how to intercept a punch. We also did ground fighting on mats and grappling. On the second day we recapped all of our strikes and the best way to deal with a situation. this was taught with the acronym SAFER, S-step back, A-asses, F-find help, E-evaluate, R-respond.
We then learnt how to disarm an attacker and counter a knife, gun and bat attack.
At the end we had a full assessment, I felt I did well in this.I really enjoyed the course and look forward to the next course in March.
-Kairos Film Studio
the Kairos Film Studio was an amazing trip. My class went just before the Halloween Midterm to record our program. We chose to do a parody of the show Family Fortunes and a short Breaking News segment that interupted the show for a brief announcement.
The family Fortunes parody was written to be funny as the contestants were asked funny questions and gave equally funny replies.
I was part of the news team as a presenter with one of the foreign students Jose. We joked about the weather and storms and ended the program in a staged fight.
The whole experience of writing scripts and acting for the program was good fun and I would recommend others to go on the trip. It was also good to see the whole class work well together to pull it all off.

-TY Musical
On the 6th 7th and 8th of february was the TY Musical. From the time I arrived in the school the musical is hightlighted as one of the most enjoyable events of the school year. I found that the musical exceeded its expectations as it was huge fun. Even the dress rehersals were unbelievably fun.
Our production this year was legally blonde the musical and although I did not have a principal role it was great fun. I was in a few of the dances inculding the Marching band scene and the Legally Blonde Dance. On of the funniest moments was trying on the marching band costumes for the first time.
This experience was a huge hightlight of the year and I was so happy to take part in it.

-BT young scientist.
This year we visited the BT young scientist in the RDS. It was great fun to go and see the exhibits as some of them tackled major issues such as renewable energy and some were based on more light-hearted topics.
One of the most entertaining exhibits was the robot battles.
The day trip was great fun and I hope to go again next year.

-DIT open day
For the First open day I was excited to go. My first initial thoughts were that D.I.T was based mostly around architecture and business. I was a little bit disappointed by this but that didn't stop me from finding the talks there to be interesting. I was surprised how interested I was to be honest. D.I.T was much better than I had anticipated. There was a lot more snacks here and there was even a recreational area for people to relax. I enjoyed the day out and overall I liked the open day.

-Scuba diving
On the 22nd of November I took part in the scuba diving course. We travelled to the national aquatic centre for the day. We firstly did a theory course to refresh what we learnt the previous week in a theory class in the school. We put on wet suits and the scuba diving gear such as the oxygen tanks and flippers.
We were allowed to use the deep diving pool and we had a great time. It was a very unique experience and I hope to do something like it in the future.
